Hiram C. Agan III, 97, of Charlotte, N.C.,died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte.
He was born in Fayetteville and lived there 91 years before moving to North Carolina. He attended Syracuse University, where he was a member of Tambourine and Bones, a music fraternity. He played piano for Club Candee, Snell's Ballroom and Suburban Park, all in Syracuse, and was organist at Fayetteville Methodist Church for 30 years. He worked at Precision Casting, Fayetteville. He was a life member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the State of New York , Fayetteville Lions Club, Syracuse Musicians Association and the Alumni Association of Syracuse University.
His wife, the former Erma Meyer, died in 1974.
Survivors: A son, Hiram C. IV of Charlotte; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen Waldorf, 86, died Monday morning, July 10, 1978, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
She was born Aug. 4, 1891 at Rock Valley, S.D., a daughter of James and Theresa McNaughton Gourley.
She was married Dec. 29, 1940 at Hudson, S.D. to H.S. Waldorf, who preceded her in death July 26, 1954. She was a rural school teacher for 33 years near Hudson, S.D.
She was preceded in death by one brother and five sisters.

L. Neil Waldorf, 89, of Vinton, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a sudden illness. He had been a resident at Windsor Manor in Vinton for the past three years. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Pastor Fred Darbonne and Pastor Kara Courtney officiating. Private family committal services will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton with military rites conducted by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 and Iowa Military Funeral Honors.
Neil was born Aug. 10, 1922, in Hudson, S.D., the son of Horace S. and Florence Ethel Cable Waldorf. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton in 1940. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific and was discharged as a corporal.
On Aug. 21, 1945, Neil was united in marriage with Kathleen L. Potter in Van Horne, Iowa. Following retirement, the couple volunteered at a hospital in Mission, Texas, for many years. Kathleen preceded him in death on April 27, 2004.
Neil co-owned 4th Street Cleaners in Vinton with his brother-in-law, Marion Isbell; he worked as an accountant and ran a tax service; he owned the Hamburger Inn in Vinton; and he was also a paymaster for D.C. Taylor Co., retiring in 1986.
Neil was a past member of Vinton’s Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis Club and Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, camping, boating, bowling and playing cards. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Enlisted on April 26, 1862, at Holmesville, Pike County, MS, at age 22. Present on June 30, 1862, company muster roll. Present on Aug. 1862 company muster roll. Present on Oct. 1862 company muster roll. Dec. 1862 company muster roll states "absent without leave since Nov. 30th [1862]." Present on Feb. 1863 company muster roll. Surrendered and paroled at the end of the horrific 47-day Siege of Vicksburg, MS, on July 4, 1863. June 30, 1864, company muster roll states "absent without leave since June 1st 1864." However, he returned to service, as he was paid "in the field" [prob. in North GA] on Sept. 18, 1864, for ten months' [March 1-Dec. 31, 1863] service, less four months AWOL beginning on Aug. 23, 1863. On March 3, 1865, the 38th MS Infantry (Mounted), the 14th Confederate Cavalry, and the 3rd MS Cavalry were consolidated into the 38th, 14th, and 3rd Consolidated MS Cavalry. Pvt. Andrews does not have a war's-end parole with this consolidated company. Quinnie Lee Morris Duncan, 84, a resident of Mt. Hermon, died at 4:30
am Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at Riverside Medical Center.
She was the widow of Cleavie Duncan.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Murry Joe and Jo Duncan
of Mt. Hermon; a daughter, Natha Lee Alford of Mt. Hermon; six
grandchildren, Janet Alford of Baltimore, MD, Mark A. Alford of
Chalmette, Raymond G. Alford, Jr. of Metairie, Kevin L. Alford of
Baton Rouge, Murry Joe Duncan, Jr. and Joy D. Stinson, both of Mt.
Hermon; six great-grandchildren; a sister Erlean Bankston of Pine.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Murry N. and Ola Mae Miller
Morris; a sister, Azarine Carter; a brother, Murry M. Morris; and a
son-in-law, Raymond Alford.
Visitation was at Crain Funeral Home from 5 pm until 9 pm Thursday and
after 8 am Friday. A funeral service was held at 11 am Friday, May 2
in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe Wiggings officiating.
Pallbearers were Kevin Alford, Mark Alford, Raymond Alford, Jr., Paul
Bankston, Walt Seal and Cory Bangs.

Rachel Lee Reeves, 88, of Golinda-Robinson passed away Sunday, June 11th 2017, at St. Catherine’s Center after a brief illness. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 15, at First Baptist Church of Golinda, 7140 Golinda Drive, with Dr. Morgan Woodard officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, June 14, at Pecan Grove Funeral Home, 3124 Robinson Drive.
Rachel was born March 3, 1929 at home on the family farm in Collin county Texas. The only child of Anna Bess and Willie Franklin Betterton.
Rachel attended a Collin county rural school and graduated from McKinney High School in 1946. Soon after graduation she enrolled in Providence Nursing school in Waco, TX. and graduated in 1949. She soon began her nursing career at Veteran Affairs Medical Hospital in McKinney, TX. here she met a handsome Marine Veteran named Eugene M. Reeves and married on October 28, 1950. Her nursing career took her to several different hospitals and she retired in 1989 from the Waco Veterans Hospital.
Rachel enjoyed time with her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, as well as attending church and socializing with her Sunday school class. She had a tender heart for all animals, and a fondness for music and dancing.
Rachel and Eugene had four daughters, Ann, Mary, Kay, and Kelly. Soon there were eight grandchildren and before long ten great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents Anna Bess and Willie Franklin Betterton, her beloved husband, Eugene M. Reeves, and her beautiful daughter, Kay Carter.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Ann Bailey of Lorena, TX., Mary Whitaker and husband Cliff of Robinson, TX., and Kelly Reeves of Lago Vista, TX., along with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the service will be her six grandsons, Bryan, Chris, and Nick Carter; Lucas and Zach Carlisle; and Matthew Bailey.
