Three Months Illness Claims Lawyer at Age of 82 - Funeral Monday Afternoon

Attorney James R. Scouton, 82, one of the oldest lawyers in Eastern Pennsylvania, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 59 Park avenue, city, after three month's illness of complications. The funeral will be held from the home Monday afternoon at 2, with interment in Sunnyside Cemetery, Trucksville.
Born In Bradford
Mr. Scouton was born in Elwell, Bradford County, September 26, 1855. He obtained his early education in the schools of that section, and later attended Wyoming Seminary. In his quest for a legal degree, he taught school and worked as a farm hand to acquire money for his education.
He practiced law since his graduation from the University of Michigan Law School in 1886. He possessed an extensive practice, and was widely known for his knowledge of the law of mechanical leins. He was highly regarded for his sincere manner and sterling qualities.
His wife, Mrs. Mercy E. Scouton and a daughter, Lura Rebecca Scouton, preceded him in death in 1923. Surviving is a son, J. Harvey Scouton, of Washington, D. C.
