- Johnny was born in Texas to Lewis H. and Emma Meredith Estes. He married Luna Elda Curry 6 May 1929. Their son, Howard Eugene Estes Sr., is also buried in Garden of Memories. He was a Mason.

Johnny P. Estes, 65, of Rt. 1, Elkhart, died Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alton D. Moore, in Houston following a sudden illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist
Church, Elkhart, with the Rev. Horace Fletcher and the Rev. U. Van Sickle officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Elkhart. Member of the Elkhart Masonic Lodge will serve as pallbearers and Have charge at the graveside.
Lifelong resident of Elkhart, Mrs. Estes was born October 26, 1905, to the late Lewis Henderson Estes and Mrs. Emma Lois Phillips Estes. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elkhart, and the Elkhart Masonic Lodge, and prior to retiring in 1966, he had 21 years service in the Missouri Pacific Railroad signal department. Also, he formerly was employed in the Elkhart Post Office, and served as bookkeeper for the Bridges Gin and Lumber Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Luna Elna Curry Estes, on Oct. 1, 1961.
Other survivors include three sons, Howard Estes and Johnny Lewis Estes, both of Palestine, and James Dwight Estes of Austin; one daughter, Mrs. Alvin L. (Billie E.) Acock of Houston; one brother, Warren Estes, Elkhart; two sisters, Miss Una Dee Estes and Mrs. Effie Curry, both of Houston; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive condolence calls at the Johnny Lewis Estes residence.
