  Winnie Melissa (Turnage) Holmes was the daughter of James J. Turnage & Frances (Duncan) Turnage of old Marion County, Mississippi. Western Marion County & eastern Pike County gave up land for the creation of Walthall County by the State Legislature in 1914. Winnie Melissa Turnage went by "Missy." She married James Cicero Holmes on the 13th of January, 1888 in Marion County. They were Baptists. There were twelve children born of this union, 7 sons & 5 daughters: 1. Ettie Holmes, 2. J. Webster Holmes, 3. Carl Cicero Holmes, 4. Prudie V. Holmes, 5. James Addison Holmes, 6. Estelle Holmes, 7. Ethel Holmes, 8. Jacob Baxter Holmes, 9. Telitha Holmes, 10. Odes Holmes, 11.
