  Permelia's maiden name was Willis. She was first married to John Gunter on July 11, 1834 in Houston Co. Ga. After his death about 1845, she next married Martin Costello Mar. 2, 1846 in Muscogee Co. Ga. She had three boys by these marraiges. After the death of her second husband Martin, she married John Z. Brooks Sep. 1, 1852 in Muscogee Co. Ga. After her last husband died, she moved to Montgomery and lived with her eldest son, John William Riley Gunter and family.
