    • Frank Boyd Dies Tuesday - Funeral Today at 2:00 p.m.

      Frank R. Boyd, a resident of the Plainfield and Horton communities nearly all of his life, died in the Mercy hospital at Waverly, early Tuesday morning, June 9, 1953, following a long illness with cancer. He was nearing his eightieth birthday, but in spite of his age and illness remained active until only a few short months ago. Mr. Boyd realized that his time had come, but he was patient and thoughtful through all of his suffering. He even planned his own funeral arrangements, reminding his daughters of final details as they took him to the hospital Monday morning.

      Mr. Boyd was born June 26, 1873, at Rock Grove, Ill., the son of Franklin and Elizabeth Boyd, and died at Mercy hospital, Waverly Tuesday, June 9. He came to Plainfield when a small boy and grew to manhood here, where he assisted his father in the operation of a general store. He was united in marriage with Olive M. Vosseller, March 4, 1896 at Plainfield. He then took over the general store at Horton, operating it for 45 years, retiring on his 70th birthday and moving to the home in Plainfield.

      Mr. and Mrs. Boyd spent their entire life in the Plainfield-Horton community. He was a member of Trrell Lodge No. 116 A. F. & A. M. Waverly; Jethro Chapter, No. 24 R. A. M. and De Molay, Consisttory at Clinton. He has been vice president of the Farmer's State Bank of Plainfield for a number of years and has served in the community in many ways. He was always active in projects that were for the good of the home community and took great pride in the promotion of them.

      He leaves two daughters, Mrs. George (Ruth) Diekmann of this place and Mrs. Lucille Buck of Davenport, Iowa; one sister, Miss Hazel Boyd of Minneapolis, Minn. three grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, who passed away February 28, 1953.

      Rev. Hilding Lind of the Baptist church will have charge of services held in the Methodist church, with Rev. W. F. Lane assisting. Calvin Kelly with Joan Vosseler as organist will sing special numbers.

      Casket bearers who will take him to his last earthly resting place are H. C. Stevens, George Wedeking, Carl Zeihi, Will Lynes, Art Moore and Will Townsend.

      Mesdames Lulu Thompson, W. de Lavergne and Fern Scully will have charge of flowers. Burial will be made in the Willow Lawn cemetery.
