- Mrs. Boyd at Age of 90 Recalls Many Civil War Experiences
Mrs. Elizabeth Boyd, who has been ill in her home for several months, passed away Sunday, October 22, at 5:00 o'clock.
Deceased was born at Rock Grove, Illinois, August 3, 1849. It was one of her desires that she be allowed to live to the age of 90. She observed her 90th birthday in August.
She was united in marriage to Franklin Boyd who preceded her in death 18 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd came with their little family to Plainfield 56 years ago, and made this their homes continuously until the time of their deaths. Mr. Boyd was a Plainfield business man during most of this time.
Mr. Boyd was a Civil War veteran and Mrs. Boyd had a keen recollection of Civil War days and to the last could relate many stories and recall many scenes of those times. She was one of the few who could tell of how she attended and heard the Lincoln-Douglas debates in Freeport, Illinois, where the Boyds have visited and spent nights in the same hotel where Abraham Lincoln stayed.
Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Boyd: Roy, Frank and Hazel. Roy preceded his mother in death five years ago. One great-granddaughter, Jean Buck, passed away four years ago.
Her two children, Frank and Hazel, mourn the passing of their mother; besides two grand-children Mrs. Ruth Deikman and Mrs. Lucille Buck, and three great-grandchildren, Ruth and Robert Buck and Barbara Jean Deikman.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 o'clock at the home, Rev. A. O. Broyles having charge of the service. Mr. Howard Stevens and Mrs. Howard Roach, accompanied by Mrs. J. H. Mason, sang duet numbers. Burial was made in the Willow Grove cemetery.
