MONTEZUMA
"In the midst of life we are in death." We are born! We live! We grow and we die. For we are the same as our fathers, they lived, they struggled and they died. We cannot interpret death any more than the men of Plato's day, only as we view death from a christian standpoint. By faith we can exclaim: "Oh! death where is thy sting?" The human mind is partially reconciled to the thought of the aged, weary traveler falling asleep in his last journey. But cannot fully accept the thought of young people passing away ere they reach the summit. It is God's plan, it is God's way, and we accept it. Sunday, August 14th, the angel of death visited two homes. Tuesday, two open graves and two funerals. Sunday noon after a brief illness, Mrs. Ada Helmer Parker, the beloved wife of our townsman, Edward Parker, passed on to her rest. This excellent woman, this devoted wife and mother and loving daughter and sister, kind parent and neighbor is survived by a loving husband, a lovely child, a boy four years old, a devoted mother, Mrs. Sarah Helmer, a cherished sister, Mrs. James Merritt of Savannah, and a large circle of friends who will miss Ada and mourn her untimely death. The funeral service was held at the Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. C. A. Willson officiating. A large attendance was present many of whom were from Savannah and Tyre. The floral tributes were beautiful. The employees of the barge canal gave a beautiful piece of fine flowers tastily arranged, "Gates A Jar." It was the finest collection of flowers ever seen in this section and was "a silent but impressive tribute to her memory." They made her a grave in Evans cemetery, where the birds sing the sweetest and tarry the longest, and there she sleeps beside her father, where their bodies shall rest until the dawn of that illustrious morning when the sea shall give up its dead. Days, weeks, months and years shall come and return. But the voice of the beloved Ada will never cheer the hearts of those she loved. Sleep kind friend, in thy grass covered home, it will be covered with beautiful flowers, rest and take thy sleep, while o'er thy grave thy many friends shall weep.
Mr. Edward Parker and family return their grateful thanks to all those who so kindly assisted them during the sickness and burial of their loved one. Also return thanks to the barge canal employees who presented the beautiful floral design, "Gates A Jar", and to all who contributed flowers.
