- YOUNG FATHER OF FIVE CHILDREN HANGS HIMSELF
Suicide of Harold Grey, 23, Third Violent Death in His Family.
Harold L. Grey, 23 year old fther of five small children, committed suicide by hanging earlv last night in the cellar of the home of his mother, Mrs. Bessie Grey, in Genoa Village, where he and his wife and chlldren resided. His lifeless body, the head in a noose of rope, was discovered by his mother about 8 o'clock.
Coroner's Physician John W. Card, who was summoned, pronounced death due to suicide by hanging. Indications were that Grey had died within a few seconds after he put his head though the noose, suspended from a beam.
His mother became concerned after he had been in the cellar about half an hour. He had gone down to do an errand. When he did not come upstairs after half an hour, Mrs. Grey went to the cellar and found the body.
Despondency over ill health is believed to have prompted the young man to end his life. Last Fall, relatives said, he was seriously ill with a form of sleeping sickness. He never fully regained his strength and he had been in poor health ever since the serious illness, they said.
About a year ago, Grey's father, Bert Grey, died from injuries received in an automobile accident. The death of an uncle, about two years ago, was caused by injuries sustained similarly.
Surviving Grey are his widow and five young daughters; his mother, two aunts, Mrs. Joseph Parmley and Mrs. Stella McCabe. both of Venice, and an uncle, Fred Grey of Genoa.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 o clock Monday afternoon at the home. Interment will be in Genoa Rural Cemetery.
