Although the NY death index and cemetery records indicate Otto’s death date as May 19, 1936, he apparently committed suicide on May 5, 1936. Perhaps his body was finally found on May 19th.

The following includes only portions of the article pertaining to Otto.
Two Drown, One from Boat, Other in Leap from Bridge
-----------------------------
Police county authorities and Coast Guardsmen last night reported failure in efforts to recover the bodies of two men who reportedly committed suicide in the waters of the Genesee River and Irondequoit Bay.
……
The other man was Otto Carl Goers, 67-year-old cabinet maker, of 976 Garson Avenue. A rowboat he rented at 11:45 a. m. was found empty but right side up, drifting on the surface of Irondequoit Bay at 12:15 p. m.
Hat Clue to Identity
By a coincidence, each man left behind only his headgear.
……
The rowboat when brought ashore contained Goer’s cap.
It was thought last night search for both men would be abandoned because of the current in the river and because officials had no eyewitnesses to tell them where Goers disappeared.
Asked About Deep Water
Goers rented a rowboat from William C. Mosher, boat liveryman, of 476 Bay Front Road. Mosher later told Deputies Joseph Friedman and Stanley Edick and Irondequoit Policeman William Oliver that Goers had made remarks about wanting to “get some fresh air” and had asked him where in that vicinity the water was deepest.
Sunken logs and other obstacles made dragging so difficult Morgue Attendants Patrick Brennan and Ray Fredericks lost several lines and hooks. Scent of the apparent drowning was at the southern end of the bay, about a mile south of Glen Haven.

Drowning Victim Bay Hunt Halted
Faced with a complete lack of knowledge of where in Irondequoit Bay the drowning occurred, Coroner Richard A. Leonardo yesterday permitted morgue attendants to cease efforts to recover the body of Otto C. Goers, 67, of 976 Garson Avenue.
Authorities believe Goers committed suicide by dropping into the water from a rented boat. He had been despondent and had asked to find “the deepest part of the bay.” The boat later was found floating right side up.
Likewise, Summerville Coast Guardsmen reported no results in their vigil for a sight of the body of an unidentified man who leaped to his death from Veterans’ Memorial Bridge. Both suicides occurred Tuesday.
