  correct date of birth is 1 Dec 1862 per his baptismal record (see below), as opposed to his grave which lists an 1863 year of birth. son of James Conley and Mary Owens. postmaster of Brockport during the mid 1890s. He worked at the store of his uncle John Owens and lived a couple houses down from him on State Street. He married Mary Agnes Wiegand of Rochester, the niece of Catherine Kimpel Lester of Brockport. James and Mary had five children: Ruth, Blanche, Harold, Leona, and Dorothy. James Edward Conley's date of birth was thought to be 1 Dec 1863 based on his daughter Ruth's notes, but Church of the Nativity baptismal records state he was born on that date in 1862 and was baptized 26 Apr 1863 at Church of the Nativity in Brockport. Thomas O'Malley and James' first cousin Catherine Gibbons were the godparents. His name was James, not Jacob. Those who claim his name was Jacob fail to look past the church records written in Latin. There are several hundred articles in the Brockport Republic that refer to James Conley. None refer to Jacob Conley.
