    • Carl Klug, 84, of Oelwein passed away on Wednesday January 11, 2017 at Mercy Living Plus. Memorial services will be held at a later date in April. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery at Oelwein. A memorial fund has been established.
      Carl Rudolph Klug was born in Oelwein on October 5, 1932 to parents Edwin and Ethel (Reid) Klug. He graduated from the Stanley High School with the class of 1951. He then served his country honorably in the United States Army with one year being in Korea. Carl then attended Upper Iowa University, earning his B.S. degree in Biology with a minor in History, graduating in 1961. He also completed several correspondence courses in computer, TV and radio service and maintenance.
      Carl had been a contract painter, and the longtime owner of a book and art shop as well as Klug TV and Electronics Service in Oelwein. He was one you could call a Renaissance Man, having been blessed with many talents and interests throughout his life. Among them, Carl studied weather, climate and astronomy; plants, animals and birds; geology and electronics. He also enjoyed camping, hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing, hunting, fishing and swimming. Carl has served the Experience Works Program, Fayette Community Library at Fayette, Farm Extension Office at Independence and DeKalb Agricultural Association at Oelwein.
      Left to celebrate Carl’s life are his nieces: Linda (David) Whitman of Grand Mound and Sharon (Terry) Frantz of Cedar Falls; his nephews: Richard Otdoerfer and David Otdoerfer of Strawberry Point. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Elizabeth Klug and Helen Otdoerfer; his brothers: William Klug and Ward Klug; his nieces: Shirley Gamble, and Beverly in infancy; his nephews: Lowell Klug, and Peter in infancy.
