The Daily News 12/17/1928: William Henry Roeper Wyoming, Dec. 17--William Henry Roeper, one of Wyoming's most prominent men, died at 2 o'clock this morning at his home on Sherman Avenue. He had been in failing health for some time. Mr. Roeper was born on May 2, 1851. He came to Wyoming from Rochester 51 years ago, locating on the old Ethel Sherman farm. He lived there until he retired from farming, when he bought a residence in the village. In 1876 he married Miss May Pfenninger of Rochester. He leaves his wife and eight daughters, Mrs. Fred Carlton of Wyoming, Mrs. Hattie Schwytzer of LeGrange, Mrs. Lewis Higgins of Dale, Mrs. James Quinlan of LeRoy, Mrs. Frank Koppe of Linden, Mrs. E.B. Grisewood and Mrs. Ralph Main of Wyoming and Miss Clara Roeper of New York. He also leaves six grandchidren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Roeper was one of the organizers and the first master of Wyoming Grange. He was one of the organizers of the former Wyoming I.O.O. F. lodge and at the time of his death was a member of Warsaw lodge. He was a director of Village Hall, a member of the Wyoming Insurance Company and of the Presbyterian church. He had held various village offices. The funeral of Mr. Roeper will be held at 2 o'clock on Wednesdsay afternoon from his late home with interment in Wyoming Cemetery.
Wyoming Reporter: ......born in Germany, coming to America when 3 years old. For many years he was a prominent farmer in the town of Middlebury removing to Wyoming ten years ago. He was a treasurer of the Wyoming Valley Fire Insurance Company of Warsaw, a member of Crystal Ball Lodge, I.O.O. F. of Warsaw, of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church and Wyoming Grange. In 1876 Mr. Roeper married Mary Pfenninger. Surviving are his widow, eight daughters, Mrs. Julius Schwytzer of LeGrange, Ill., Mrs. James Quinlan of LeRoy, Mrs. Louis Higgins of Dale, Mrs. Emery Grisewood, Mrs. Fred Carlton, Clara Roeper, and Mrs. Ralph Main of Wyoming, and Mrs. Frank Koppe of Linden, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Hannah Straub of Rochester.
