- Longtime Waseca resident Bruce Warren Lundholm, 83, died August 19, 2009, at The Colony assisted living facility in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
A visitation will be held Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 3-6 PM at the Kinder-Dennis Home for Funerals in Waseca, and will continue on Monday for one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 24, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. Roger Haug officiating. Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
Bruce Lundholm was born August 30, 1926 in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Arthur and Maybel (Skoglund) Lundholm. Bruce graduated from Rochester High School in 1944.
After serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota, where he won numerous awards as a member of the college track team. He graduated in 1949 with a bachelor's degree in zoology.
On September 10, 1949, Bruce married Jean Ann Priebe at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca. Their daughter, Beth Ann, was born in 1952.
Bruce went on to earn a florist's degree from the Marti Peeds School of Floral Artistry in Kansas City. He and his wife opened a floral and gift shop in Waseca. After a fire destroyed the shop, Bruce became involved in the mink industry, joining his father-in-law, E.C. Priebe, in a mink ranching operation in Waseca.
Bruce remained active in the mink industry for 36 years. He served as president of the Minnesota Fur Breeders Association and the president of the National Board of Fur Farm Organizations. On behalf of the national board, he traveled to all major European countries where mink are raised. He and Jean Ann also traveled for pleasure to Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa.
Bruce served as president of the Waseca Rotary and Lions Clubs and as a member of the Zurah Shrine. He was also a recipient of the Waseca Jaycee Distinguished Service Award. For many years he was a popular member of the Lakeside Country Club.
An Eagle Scout in his youth, Bruce was an active supporter of Girl Scouting. He served on the steering committee for the capital fund drive to build Singing Hills camp in Waterville for the Cannon Valley Girl Scout Council. He was also chairman of the Camp Site Development Committee.
Never one to let a summer go unappreciated, Bruce for many years enjoyed boating with his family on the Mississippi River. More recently he spent periods of the summer at a lake cabin in Northern Minnesota, often joined by friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann; daughter Beth and her husband Jack Gordon of Eden Prairie; granddaughter Erica and her husband Nick Ciardelli of Eden Prairie; and granddaughter Megan Gordon and fiancé Joel Schneider of Chicago.
He will be deeply missed by everyone who had the good fortune to know him.
