"Judge Uriah Millsaps
(Special to the Picayune)
Hazleburst, Miss., Jan. 11 - Judge Uriah Millsaps was buried here to-day in the local cemetery. The death of Judge Millsaps removes one of the landmarks of the county. He was born in this county in March, 1828. He attended college at Hanover, Ind., together with is cousins, Major R. W. Millsaps and the late Dr. J. J. Wheat. He afterwards graduated at Danville College, Kentucky. He read law and was admitted to the bar at Gallatin, Miss., where he practiced his profession a number of years. He was for a while in partnership with the late Benjamin King, of this county. He was appointed judge of the circuit court for this district, which position he held one term. His record on the bench was pure and spotless, and he retired from his official position with the good will of everyone. He was a good citizen, whose death will be sorely felt by the community at large. The following acted as pallbearers: Judge H. C. Conn, Hon. J. S. Sexton, Hon. S. W. Miller, R. P. Willing, Sr., J. B. Mayes and R. P. Willing, Jr. Rev. T. W. Adams, pastor of the Methodist church, conducted the services and preached a strong sermon suitable to the occasion."
