  Herman L. "Shorty" Duncan, 74, of McComb, died Feb.28, 2001, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. Visitation is 4-9 tonight and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb. Visitation resumes at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene in McComb, until services there at 2 p.m. The Revs. Gary Ballard, Don Ballard and Bobby Boyd will officiate. Burial will be in Pike Memorial Gardens. Mr. Duncan was born July 31, 1926, in Walthall County. He was the son of Esco Baxter Duncan and Zella Emily Glover Duncan. He was retired from Brown's Velvet Ice Cream Co. where he worked for over 41 years. He was also was a former taxi driver for Hudspeth 464 Taxi Co. in McComb. He was currently a part time van driver for McCarty Van Services, transporting workers for Illinois Central Railroad. He was a very active member of First Church of the Nazarene in McComb. His family said he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends, was a loving husband, father and grandfather and never met a stranger. Mr. Duncan was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Brian Chadwick Boyd. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Louise Alexander Duncan of McComb; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Judi Duncan of McComb; two daughters and sons-in-law, Penny Boyd and the Rev. Bobby Boyd and Nina Thornhill and Gary Wayne Thornhill, all of McComb; one sister and brother-in-law, Elouise and Willie Clay Allen of Pride, La.; one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Glenn and Esther Alexander of Summit and Frances Alexander of Nederland, Texas; nine grandchildren, Keith Boyd and his wife Julie of McComb, Karen Boyd and her husband Kevin of McComb, Steven Duncan of McComb, Nikki Duncan of Atlanta, Kim Duncan of Summit, Stacey Hampton and her husband Steven of State Line, Christy Jones and her husband Jason of Summit, and Jeremy Thornhill and Joshua Thornhill, both of McComb; six great-grandchildren, Kayla, Karli and Kalli Boyd, all of McComb, Zachary and Justin Boyd of McComb, and Shelby Jones of Summit; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will be Keith Boyd, Steven Duncan, Jeremy Thornhill, Joshua Thornhill, Jason Jones, Kevin Boyd, Steven Hampton, Tommy Allen, Clayton Allen, Roger Moak and Adam Dennis.
