    • K. Wade Bennett died at the age of 69 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He was the President of Bennett Card Shops, Inc. and former board chairman of Sanger Harris Department Stores.

      A Dallas native, Wade Bennett graduated from Southern Methodist University and earned a master's degree from Northwestern University. He also pursued advanced management studies at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He taught at the University of Georgia and Rockford College in Kansas, City MO, before beginning his retail career in 1947 as vice president of R.H. Macy & Co., in Kansas City.

      He moved to Bamberger's in New Jersey as senior vice president in 1952 and returned to Dallas in 1963 as chairman of the board at Sanger Harris Department Stores. In 1967, he rejoined Macy's as vice president of the New York division for three years, and from 1973 to 1977, he was executive vice president and director of Carter Hawley Hale Stores Inc.

      He returned again to Texas in 1977 and established Bennett Card Shops, Inc., a chain including 11 Dallas area Hallmark greeting card shops, two Accents & Gifts shops and a stationery store. He served on the board of Silver Dollar City, operator of White Water amusement park in Arlington, and was a board member of Texas American Bank until is merger in 1983.

      An active member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Wade Bennett was a member of the Standing Commission on Structure of the Episcopal Church and chaired the Joint Nominating Committee for the election of the presiding bishop in 1984. He also was a member of the Board of Foreign Parishes, St. Paul's American Episcopal Church in Rome and St. James American Episcopal Church in Florence.
