Spencer Arlidge Dead After Years in Printing Tde.
Half a century in the printing business in Rochester ended yesterday, March 15, 1953 with the death of Spencer C. Arlidge of 35 Boardman St. Associated with the old United Litho and Printing Co. for most of those years, Mr. Arlidge was forced by illness to retire three years ago from Case Hoyt Corp. where he had worked as a papercutter for 15 years. He was in his 70's when he died.

Born in a town near the Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada, he was the 13th child of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Arlidge who had come over from England. Altogether they had 14 children, alternating boys and girls. Spencer Arlidge came to Rochester as a teen age lad to live with his aunt and uncle who owned the old Boulton Shoe Co. All his brothers went into the shoe business but Spencer tried he printing industry. From an apprentice he rose to become a director and stockholder in the United firm. When that business folded in the early days of the depression, Mr. Arlidge switched, like others from the same outfit to Case-Hoyt. Especially interested in hunting, he was considered a crack shot. Mr. Arlidge had handled guns from the time of his youth in Canada. On a hunting trip one time in Canada, he brought down 3 crows with one shot. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Christine Duford Arlidge; a son, Earl K; a brother Christopher; a sister, Katherine Arlidge; 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.
